We were afraid that, spoiled in Switzerland, we are not able to admire other mountains. We were wrong. El Chalten welcomed us with amazing landscape scenery featuring the peaks of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Later on, the views got only better. We did a four-day-long hike in this surrounding. Let the pics from the peaks tell you the rest of this story.
Notes:
Fitz Roy (3405 m) is the highest mountain in the area. It was named after the captain of Beagle – the ship that took Charles Darwin in his fruitful journey. They navigated up the Santa Cruz river in 1834, only 50km from cordillera.
Cerro Torre (3102 m) for many decades was considered impossible to climb. The first (documented) ascent occurred only in 1974.

Amazing… So different from Switzerland. Btw, are people climbing these peeks?
Your photos look absolutely amazing! I am really enjoying following your trip.
The photos are realy amazing. We (Mama and Tata) recognized that the best are: the photo titled Laguna Torre and the next, both with the big pond. Hopefully, there is summer in the place, you are, however I can see ice on the rocks.
BTW… Macek, could you configure your server such that I could receive an email if you reply to my comment?
That hike of yours is simply amazing!!! We are bookmarking this place and will go there on “the next possible occasion” (which might be in quite a time
