Winter in Sydney

photos

I added Sydney to the rather short list of citiesI could like to live in. It is nice and clean, modern and green. Sydney’s CBD (Central Business District) makes an impressive background for the Opera house, which, placed on a little peninsula, seems to be another boat passing by towards the great Harbor Bridge.

But there is more to it than just the city center. In Sydney everybody has access to the fractal-like coast. Taking a ferry to explore it was one of our favorite activities. The small boats parked in marinas for winter seem frequently used in the summertime, it is comon to commute to work by little sail boat. The surfers catch good waves on several nice beaches a stone throw away from CBD. We couch-surfed next to one of them, Bondi Beach (greetings to Lloyd and Massimo!).

Local people cheer for rugby. It comes in at least four different forms and we’ll probably never fully understand its rules. It is a full contact, rough and violent sport. In Australia, they say rugby is for men and soccer for women. This did not prevent them from qualifying to soccer World Cup this year. In contrast in Poland soccer is by far the most popular sport, and we did not qualify… Whom should we support in Johannesburg in three weeks?

But most importantly, Australia had always madme scared. People had warned that there are generally 2 kinds of spiders: the ones that you can kill with a shoe and the one that you can’t. And I survived the trip through Australia without any close encounters with creepy crawlies!
