Koalas and Kangaroos in Adelaide

photos

Next stop was Adelaide, where we were hosted by Hung and Tam in their house in the green suburbs. We were also greeted by 8 month old Bella, their small girl always curious about everything around her. With Bella, we had our crash course on how it might be being a parent. Did not so bad!

South Australia is said to be th driest state of the driest continent. In many places (e.g., at the airport) the water is recycled and thus not drinkable. Last year the city water restrictions caused Hung’s lawn dry out. The biggest river in the area hardly deserves the term “creek”. However, to our surprise, this year Hung’s lawn is doing just fine, and it was cold and rainy on the last day we stayed there.

No trip to Australia would be complete without an encounter with Koalas and Kangaroos. To be on the safe side, we went to Cleland Park that is kind of a vast area open zoo with lots of animals. We were lucky to find Koala awake (it sleeps 18-20 hours a day) slowly eating its eucalyptus leaves. Kangaroos are really funny, nice and gentle. And tasty!, which we confirmed on the next day with the help of Hung’s bbq. Even Marta made an exception in her quest to become a vegetarian.

Tam and Hung, thanks again for your hospitality! Looking forward to seeing you next time!
