Vicky falls

photos

Mh, that is some amount of water purring just meters from you*. Raining cats and dogs in a kilometer radius, if you want to take a picture of the falls themselves expect to be drenched. Actually, it is hardly possible to take out the camera. We had to work out a system with plastic bag wrapped around the camera and pet-bottle extensions for the lenses :)

Victoria Falls are a spectacular site and earn the name ‘7th wonder of the world’. However, for me, having seen Niagara Falls in Toronto and Argentinian Falls of Iguasu, this was just another enormous river disappearing in a valley. The things that come to mind, is how much power could be generated for the whole continent, if a hydro power plant was invested. But it is too late; fortunately or not, the site is a strictly protected national park.

Just like many other great falls in the world, Vicky Falls are shared between two countries: Zimbabwe and Zambia. An enormous bridge serves as a border crossing – this steel construction suspended in a narrow deep canyon is a paradise for adrenaline junkies. Here you can try out all the most exciting jumps, swings and zip lines ever invented. Luckily, I don’t have enough testosterone to go for it, and Maciek not enough money : )

* Victoria Falls is neither the highest nor the widest waterfall in the world. But they found a category where it leads! It is claimed to be the largest, based on a width x height area :)
